Things You Might Have Missed

Holy crap. How have I not put up a TYMHM since January 10th. I seem to have lost a month of my life somewhere along the way.

As you must have gathered from the couple posts I have put up, one of the things keeping me busy is the Criminal INjustice Committee of occupy. We had a good turnout for our protest yesterday for the National Occupy Day for Prisoners. You can check out the video here. And if you are on twitter, follow us.

Have you all seen the promo for Occupy Unmasked? Brought to you by none other than Brandon Darby. You know. The guy who inspired Why Misogynists Make Great Informants. Oh yes. He is back. He’s been trolling occupy protests and twitter feeds all over the place.

You know that HUGE figure that represents our “defense” budget? Not even close.

I really do love free speech. But it takes some serious nerve to actually sue so that you can lie about ballot initiatives. I mean politics is nothing but lies. But I feel like we have turned a corner here.

Wow HRC!  Just Wow!  (P.S. My friend has a petition up on this one.)

Russian punk women in snazzy balaclavas. What could be better than that?

So with all this reading I have been doing on prison issues, I’ve come across some really bizarre shit. But I think the fact that Rivers Correctional is on Yelp must be the most surreal thing yet. Shockingly, there are no reviews yet.

I love this research. Mind you I have not looked at the methodology. But I’d like to see a lot more people try to calculate the real value of what garbage collectors and strawberry pickers do.  If people were actually paid by how useful they were to society, things would look so much different.

And finally, I will leave you with this minor and hilarious rebellion by some Vermont inmates with a sense of humor.
